Once you have made your appointment for NT, I will send you a medical history questionnaire and a blank 5-day food diary, which I would ask you to complete as fully as possible and bring with you to your consultation. It is most important that you include typical days and the times of meals/snacks, as this is a good indicator of your current nutritional status.
The first consultation is 1 hour (minimum) and during this time I will gather information surrounding your symptoms, general health and lifestyle. I will analyse your diet and consider underlying causes. Together we will discuss and plan a strategy for you to achieve your goals and I will then provide you with a tailored programme. Referrals may be made to other medical professionals or complimentary therapists if appropriate.
As a practitioner, I believe it is vital to explain (using simple terminology), how specific nutrients and diet affect the functioning of the body, raising the patient’s awareness of the interaction between diet, lifestyle and health. My experience has taught me that this is a crucial part of the consultation as this knowledge enhances the relevance of the dietary and lifestyle advice and encourages the patient to work towards recovery and optimum health.
Follow-up Consultation: This is usually arranged 4 weeks after your first consultation and lasts about 45 mins. We discuss the changes you have made and I monitor your progress. It is an opportunity to tweak any dietary changes for continued improvement and I may make some suggestions about dietary supplements or laboratory tests, if I think these are necessary.
Further consultations are discussed – some patients require on-going regular support and others may feel they have sufficient advice and self-motivation to continue on their road to recovery.
