I have a (BSc) Hons degree in Health Sciences & Nutritional Therapy and trained at the University of Westminster, where I gained valuable experience at the innovative Westminster Polyclinic for Integrative Health. It was here that I began my nutritional career in enabling clients to manage their troubling symptoms associated with conditions that are so prevalent today, very often as a result of poor dietary habits. I have also trained with the National Centre for Eating Disorders (approved with British Psychological Society), to coach and manage those suffering with disordered and emotional eating problems. In addition, I have a Certificate in Obesity Management. My public health roles include health & nutrition counselling with the Princes Trust, Anglian Community Enterprise and the Macmillan Centre at Southend University Hospital and Broomfield Hospital.
As an educator and wellness coach, I empower and motivate my clients to make better food choices, both at home and at work. Very small changes in diet and lifestyle can have enormously positive and dynamic effects which can be noticeable within days, enabling you to live and enjoy a fulfilling and healthy life.
I enjoy working with young people and have frequently presented nutrition workshops in schools and colleges, (Guildhall School Music & Drama; Italia Conti for Performing Arts, University of the Arts), guiding youngsters of all ages to understand how their food choices can affect their health, wellbeing and performance throughout their education, and may impact on their professional life later on. This led me to becoming an Associate Lecturer in Health & Social Care for five years, including lecturing on nutrition, psychology and sociology of health, psychological perspectives of health & behaviour and health research, and becoming a qualified teacher in 2011.
I am passionate about food and qualified as a Cordon Bleu Cook in 1981; I taught cookery, catered and gave cookery demonstrations for 22 years prior to training as a Registered Nutritional Therapist. As a working mother, I have always been aware of the challenges of getting a meal on the table in the evening after a long day at work, but my experience as a cook, together with my nutritional knowledge enables me to provide practical information and recipes on how to feed individuals and families in the most nutritious, economical and enjoyable ways. Consequently I am keen to educate parents and their children on the importance of a healthy diet and help them recognise the link between the foods they are eating and their health.
As well as giving individual consultations I advise on sports nutrition for optimum performance, run dietary re-training groups for weight management and provide corporate wellness days. The net result is less absenteeism, improved performance and productivity and overall a more positive, healthy and happy workforce.
I am a fully insured member of BANT (British Association of Applied Nutritional Therapists), CNHC (Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council) and NTC (Nutritional Therapy Council). My training has met National Occupational Standards and I am bound and regulated by a strict Code of Ethics and Practice. I am trained and certified to use scientific and nutritional knowledge in a therapeutically curative and healing way. To compliment my knowledge and comply with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, I attend seminars and lectures to learn about future developments in nutrition and the latest scientific, evidence-based research, and write nutrition articles for some publications.
